About
Part Lawyer, Part Engineer,
Full-time Tinkerer.
I trained as a lawyer — international law and human rights, an LL.M. finished cum laude — and then spent seven years with UNHCR doing refugee protection in Sudan and South Sudan, some of it in places where the work was done under fire. It taught me the habit I still rely on most: staying calm and useful when things aren’t.
Then I quietly defected to IT. Twelve years in Brussels running infrastructure and security, and latterly a bit of AI governance, for an organisation that had to take both seriously. Since 2024 I’ve been running IT service management for a regulated MedTech company.
In the evenings I build things. The one I care about most is 1-bit, a music player for iPhone that refuses to touch the bits on their way to your DAC. Everything else I’ve built is either in service of that, or below in the list of things I’ve since retired — I’d rather keep a short list honest than a long one impressive.
Now
September 2026- Shipping 1-bit — 1.9 went out in August, and the bridge alongside it.
- Pruning: three side projects retired this month to make room for fewer, better things.
- Day job: IT service management at a regulated MedTech company.
Things I’ve built
- 1-bit active
A bit-exact DSD and hi-res music player for iPhone and iPad, with a free companion server for the music you keep at home.
- The Pitch active
An AI advocate that reads what you are hiring for and makes the honest case for hiring me.
- Sovereign Shield frozen
A deterministic privacy shield that redacts identifiers before a prompt reaches ChatGPT, Gemini or Claude. The Chrome extension stays available, unmaintained.
- K.E.V.I.N. archived
An autonomous red-teaming framework: attacker, target and judge models pressure-testing where frontier models leak. The findings are still up.
- Buildmancer retired
An AI building companion for Minecraft that designed, self-reviewed and placed original builds from a chat request.
- Sonogram retired
A WebGL visualizer that turned a track into a 3D sonic fingerprint. Its audio analysis lives on inside 1-bit.
The posts written about the retired ones are kept in the archive.
Off the clock
- Photographs, mostly of places. The South Sudan set has quietly passed a million views on Flickr.
- A licensed drone pilot (EASA), for the photos that need some altitude.
- Three languages fluently, three more badly.
- Keen cyclist. Learned to swim suspiciously late in life.
- A home network that runs more gear than some small offices.
- Once took first prize at the Jessup international-law moot court, which still comes up at dinner.
